Riley and I have been talking about going on another cruise since we got back from our last one almost three years ago. We planned to go in November, but then Riley got called to jury duty and we had to put things on hold. A few weeks ago, we noticed that prices were way low for a short 4 day cruise out of California. So we decided to book it! Since we flew out early Saturday morning, I took Boston to my in-laws on Friday and our vacation began. Our first adventure was a last minute stop for pre-cruise pedicures. I'm still not sure how I talked Riley into it, but I got a big kick out of it!

The next morning we took off (day one of our adventure). We flew into the Long Beach airport, which is a crazy small outdoor airport. Even baggage claim is essentially outside, it was crazy! We got to our hotel just as it started pouring rain. We did not take an umbrella, so after a few hours, we decided we were starving and set out to find somewhere to buy either food or an umbrella. We found the umbrella first, and ended up eating pizza at some random hole in the wall convenience store type place. It was possibly the best pizza I've ever had, and I don't even know what the place was called.
To document the rest of the trip, I kept random notes on my phone. I'm not in the mood to embellish much, so here they are:
Day two: I convinced Riley to go running with me in the rain. I loved it, except for the short detour we took through the getto- that was a bit scary. Boarded the boat. I lost a mini golf game by 2 (Riley got 3 hole in ones-crazy). Ate alligator- did not enjoy eating alligator, it was too chewy/rubbery. The boat was rocking like crazy.
Day three: Before our trip, Boston had not been sleeping well and was waking up at like 5am. So, Riley and I were both really excited to sleep in. Instead, we woke up on our own, in time to catch an awesome sunrise!

There was some kind of animal playing in the wake behind the ship. I think it was seals, it was lots of fun to watch them popping their heads up out of the water. |
I then kicked Riley's trash in mini golf -1 to 2!!! I decided I wanted to climb some stairs by the bay in Catalina Island, and we ended up walking/hiking around the whole island. If you ask Riley it was 5 miles, then it turned into 8, then 12 miles. I think it was maybe 3 miles... maybe.

Day Four: I woke up before Riley, anyone who knows us know this is crazy! We went to a lame stretching and abs class at the gym on the ship. Went shopping in Mexico. Learned that I suck at bartering, but Riley is way good at it. I stepped in to help Riley continue his crazy Mexican massage tradition (thankfully I did not get robbed). Then we spent a lazy evening on the boat reading Insurgent.

This is the cute poncho we got for Boston while we were in Mexico. Riley bartered for it and got us a great deal :). As you can see, Boston wasn't a fan. |
Day Five: Day at sea. The boat was rocking like crazy! I had lots of fun running on the treadmill- it is way more entertaining when you have to fight to stay on the treadmill while the boat is rocking. Had a lazy day, started missing Boston like crazy. Got all dressed up for a fancy dinner.

Day Six: Made it back to Long Beach. Flew back to Vegas. Got in the car and drove right to Utah to get Boston, who I don't think missed us at all. After we made it home, he decided to give in and give me some kisses :).

Boston chillin' in the car on the drive home with his maraca (he calls it a "shake it"), apple sauce and Riley's phone. |
I found out I was pregnant about a week or so before we left on our trip, and unfortunately it was during the cruise that my morning sickness decided to fire up in full force. Mixed with the rocky boat, I think we are done with cruises for awhile. But, it was great to get away, and even better to come home and see Boston :).
